The Role

The role of Underwriter & Claims Consultant, Underwriting & Claims Solutions, Protection, SEA & China is to support key underwriting and claims related activities within the underwriting and claims team in the SEA & China region.

As an Underwriter & Claims Consultant you will be working closely with the AVP, Underwriting & Claims Solutions, Protection, SEA & China to develop and implement an underwriting and claims proposition that meets both client needs as well as being consistent with PL Re’s strategic focus. 

Additionally, as an Underwriter & Claims Consultant you will be expected to assist with the management of a portfolio of insurance and UnderwriteMe partner clients. 

Duties

Quotes and Product Development (40-50%)

•       Provide expertise to client quotes, product development, treaties, and terms of trade, ensuring effective stakeholder management.

•       Identify opportunities to develop product enhancements with a clear understanding of market needs to grow our market share.

•       Produce professional reports with clear documentation of thought processes and a concise executive summary that captures key business and technical considerations.

•       Identify opportunities to streamline the quote process and deliver practical solutions that result in more efficient and pragmatic decision making.

•       Utilise UnderwriteMe data as part of all quotes, analysing and identifying areas that will provide PL Re with a competitive advantage to win and retain business.

Client Strategy and Solutions (0-10%)

•       Play an active role in developing innovative underwriting and claims solutions for key PMF clients, fostering a client-focused and growth orientated culture. This includes collaborating with Strategic Analytics, UnderwriteMe, Pricing and Client Solutions with a Deal Team mentality to produce desired outcomes.

•       Contribute to market strategy by supporting key marketing, business development, and pricing activities including the use of UnderwriteMe data. 

•       Maintain a strong knowledge of UnderwriteMe products and strategy and contribute to the execution of Underwrite Me’s strategy.

•       In collaboration with UnderwriteMe, deliver on the Future of Underwriting and Claims visions including claims engine implementations and supporting the development of the AI Engine.

Client Engagement and Training (15-20%)

•   Utilise our deep understanding of clients' businesses and market differentiators to enhance relationships through engagement and training, ensuring client loyalty and satisfaction. Leverage this knowledge to strengthen client partnerships, positioning PL Re as market leaders.

·       Increase visibility in the market/region through regular client interactions. Be proactive and independent to foster and maintain client relationships

Internal / External Governance, Operational Excellence, Ocean Development (10-20%)

•       Maintain awareness and understanding of relevant regulatory changes and their impacts on the insurance and reinsurance markets.

•       Maintain knowledge of, contribute and own the regular maintenance of risk management policies and frameworks.

•       Participate in, lead, or approve external audits, including the preparation and execution of reports, and the tracking and completion of audit actions. Audit actions include the review and planning of future audits, case referral criteria, cedant authorities, and other related activities.

•       Support Ocean development work, including client engagement regarding risk philosophy changes and client-requested enhancements.

•       Provide informal and formal mentoring/training to develop team members and may supervise the work of others.

Qualifications & Experience

–  Educated to at least degree level.

–  Proven experience working at a senior level in a life underwriting and/or claims function within an insurance company (reinsurance experience preferred).

–  Experience handling underwriting and/or claims across all major life insurance products.

–  Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with good presentation capabilities.

–  Good working knowledge of life insurance industry regulations.

–  Proficient in PowerPoint, with the ability to navigate and leverage various AI tools effectively.
