RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior LNG and European Gas Market Analyst will be a key member of the fundamentals team within JERAGM Asia, focussing on trading LNG and European Gas. The individual will play a key part in the analysis supporting JERAGM’s physical and financial LNG, Coal and Japanese Power traders.
The goal of this role is to bring up the analytics capability in Asia to the same level as London.
The role of the analyst will be to build and update models to gain market views and advice the traders with trade ideas. A key element of the role is to have a forward view and provide advice on the main drivers and the latest market development.
The analyst will also coordinate closely with other members in a collaborative and open manner, create high level overview presentations for senior management and the wider business community as well as to draft weekly and monthly reports in which the latest drivers are clearly communicated.Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of gas and LNG markets, including interactions with other fuels and European and US gas markets, to support market analysis.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of gas and LNG markets, including interactions with other fuels and European and US gas markets, to support market analysis.
- Design and build analytical tools to support insights across LNG-importing countries, with a focus on Atlantic markets and the LNG charter market.
- Utilize Econometrics, Power BI, Databricks, Python, and spreadsheet modelling experience in analysis
- Analyze the impact of alternative fuels on the gas market and incorporate this into modelling approaches.
- Understand the Japanese power market in detail and its interaction with gas trading to support informed decision-making by the Japanese Power Trading unit.
- Monitor the TTF Market during Asian trading hours, analyze key drivers, and provide insights to support the physical and financial traders on how the TTF market trades and how it interacts with (Asian) Gas markets.
- Develop and build S&D models of European Gas and LNG, including modelling interactions with other fuels, the LNG charter market and how gas flows between European markets and what drives the spreads between those markets.
- Work closely with traders to explain market views and advice the traders on how the TTF market is going to behave.
- Explain the exposure and insights from the Japanese power trading unit.
- Support strategic business decisions by communicating the impact of our analysis
- Build longer term views on likely market trends. Assisting the business with contract renegotiations and origination deals when required
- Generate trade ideas and back these up with analytics.
- Share insights on wider gas and relevant commodity markets, and understanding their impacts on our views and positions.
- Scraping data and data-warehouse buildout so that a more systematic approach of modelling is possible – especially considering probabilistic and multivariable regression models.
- Contribute to projects such as DMP to enhance trading strategies using advanced technologies, focusing on factors driving gas markets daily and market prices before settlement.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in a highly numerate subject
- At least 10 years’ relevant experience in LNG and European Gas Market Analysis role in a trading environment.
- Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills; excellent Power BI, Excel, Python and modelling skills
- Proven experience in modelling LNG (including chartering) and European Gas.
- Good understanding in logistical optimisation and how LNG Is trading between basins
- Commercial thinking and ability to see opportunities in data and in trends.
- Solid understanding of LNG infrastructure projects and implementation. Keen to enhance view on LNG and European Gas markets and the interaction with other fuels like Coal and Oil.
- Worked in a trading environment and has experience in generating trade ideas and being able to back these up with proper analytics.
- Has proven track record to build multi regression models and use the latest technology to enhance our insights in a quicker more insight full way (eg. AI)
- Effective written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
