Job Summary
As a Procurement Engineer you will lead assigned Quality initiatives, evaluate Supplier product designs, provide insights improving product quality and mitigate risks, build up Supplier technical capability, establish rapport and relationship and ensure delivery to high quality expectations.
Responsibilities
Manages one or more aspects of the global engineering relationship with key suppliers of external components and materials for the development and manufacturing of a product.
Reviews and evaluates supplier designs, processes, and activities for compliance with HP specifications, manufacturing guidelines, quality processes, and standards.
Provides tangible feedback based on results to improve product quality and mitigate risk of product failure.
Leads engineering and customer feedback for supplier products; communicates and collaborates with management, both internal HP, and Suppliers.
Participates in business reviews to discuss best practices and issues to ultimately improve supplier performance and reliability and strengthen business partnerships.
Work with manufacturing and partners to develop and implement changes to product or process to reduce defects, improve quality, and lower costs.
Drives innovation and integration of new supplier technologies and company quality initiatives into product design and manufacturing.
Perform scheduled HP quality audits.
Education & Experience Recommended
Graduate Degree in Materials or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.
4-7 Years of work experience, preferably in sourcing, project management, compliance and quality assurance, supplier relationship management or a related field.
Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge in Part Specifications - part dimensions standards and tolerances.
Control plan and FMEA.
Change management process and documentation of implementation.
Knowledge of failure analysis methods.
Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills - ability to interface with internal and external stakeholders.
Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
Ability to evaluate technical specifications and ensure purchased components meet design requirements.
Knowledge of sourcing strategies, supplier evaluation, and familiarity with procurement systems or supply chain optimization is a plus.
Experience in building and maintaining supplier relationships.
