What a NPDI Product Engineer does at HP:
Design & Development
- Create portions of engineering solutions for electrical/electronic parts, subsystems, and integrated circuitry based on established principles.
- Translate product specifications into technical documentation, CAD models, and BOMs.
- Ensure designs are functional, manufacturable, and cost-effective.
Testing & Validation
- Develop and implement test plans for debugging defective hardware and process steps.
- Validate tolerances, form/fit/function, EMI, safety, reliability, and thermal performance.
- Publish test results and maintain thorough procedural records.
Manufacturing Integration
- Support transition from prototype to full-scale production.
- Apply DFM/DFA principles to reduce complexity and eliminate bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams for feasibility and quality assurance.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and design optimisation.
- Monitor field performance and gather feedback for future iterations.
Collaboration
- Work closely with internal and outsourced development partners.
- Communicate findings and resolutions effectively across teams.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Materials Engineering (or related field).
- Experience:
- 2–5 years in product development or similar engineering role, preferably in manufacturing or technology-driven environments.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Strong understanding of product development processes, DFM/DFA, and quality systems.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organisational skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
