Key Responsibilities

1. Customer & Solution Engagement

  • Engage customers and project stakeholders to define electrical system requirements, load profiles, and redundancy levels (Tier I–IV).
  • Provide technical consultation and conceptual design solutions that align with customer capacity, uptime, and energy efficiency goals.
  • Support sales and solutioning teams in developing technical proposals, equipment strategies, and high-level power distribution concepts during pre-sales and tender stages.

2. Electrical Design Management

  • Lead and manage the electrical design process for data center projects, including medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) distribution systems, UPS, switchgear, PDUs, busway, standby generators, and emergency systems.
  • Develop system architecture and single-line diagrams (SLDs), power flow studies, and fault-level analyses to ensure reliability and compliance.
  • Review and validate detailed design deliverables prepared by consultants or contractors to maintain design intent, coordination, and constructability.

3. Technical Leadership & Design Reviews

  • Provide technical leadership on electrical engineering principles, ensuring alignment with Uptime Tier standards, IEC, IEEE, and NEC requirements.
  • Conduct formal design reviews and technical audits at key project milestones (concept, schematic, detailed design, and IFC).
  • Ensure designs are optimized for cost, performance, scalability, and operational maintainability.

4. Compliance, Standards & Quality Control

  • Ensure electrical systems comply with local authority codes, international standards, and company design guidelines.
  • Lead initiatives to develop, maintain, and improve DayOne’s electrical design standards, design manuals, and technical libraries.
  • Implement design QA/QC protocols to verify accuracy, completeness, and quality of deliverables.

5. Innovation & System Optimization

  • Drive research and implementation of new technologies in data center electrical systems, including modular switchgear, high-efficiency UPS, busway distribution, and renewable or hybrid power integration.
  • Conduct system reliability assessments (e.g., failure mode analysis) and energy efficiency optimization for power distribution systems.

6. Vendor & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Coordinate with equipment vendors and suppliers to evaluate and select electrical components based on project requirements, lifecycle cost, and technical performance.
  • Work closely with construction teams to ensure smooth transition from design to installation and commissioning.
  • Provide technical Q&A and troubleshooting support for electrical issues during construction and commissioning stages.

7. Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare, review, and maintain technical documentation, including schematics, specifications, reports, and as-built records.
  • Support internal reporting on project progress, design risks, and cost-performance analysis.

Job Requirements

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Master’s degree and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent registration is an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 8–10 years of experience in electrical design and design management within the data center or mission-critical infrastructure sectors.
  • Proven experience leading electrical system design from concept to completion, with deep understanding of redundant power architectures (N, N+1, 2N) and high-availability system design.
  • Track record of delivering large-scale data center projects (>20 MW IT load) or comparable mission-critical facilities.

Technical Expertise

  • Strong proficiency in power system analysis, including load flow, short circuit, and protection coordination studies.
  • In-depth understanding of MV/LV distribution, UPS topologies, generator systems, earthing/bonding, and lighting and control systems.
  • Familiar with battery energy storage systems (BESS), renewable energy integration, and on-site generation strategies is advantageous.
  • Deep knowledge of NEC, IEC, IEEE, and local authority regulations applicable to electrical design and installation.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve design and construction challenges effectively.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of articulating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written); Japanese or a third language is a plus.
  • Proficient in MS Office, AutoCAD, and Revit (BIM); experience with ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or similar analysis software is preferred.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
