Position Summary:
The Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of all EHS programs across the company's construction projects. This role ensures full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a strong safety culture across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute strategic EHS plans, goals, and policies across all construction sites.
- Develop and implement EHS standards and minimum requirements for projects.
- Develop and implement EHS plans for projects.
- Lead the implementation of proactive safety programs that reduce incidents, injuries, and near-misses.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, MOM, and all applicable regulations and industry standards.
- Plan, conduct, and oversee regular job site inspections, audits, and risk assessments aligned with ISO standards and DayOne requirements.
- Partner with Project Managers, Project Directors, and Site Superintendents to embed safety best practices from preconstruction through project closeout.
- Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis and oversee corrective action plans and shared lessons learned.
- Develop and manage EHS training programs and certifications for all staff and subcontractors.
- Maintain and analyze safety metrics and KPIs, and report findings to senior leadership.
- Oversee environmental compliance including hazardous materials, waste disposal, and stormwater management aligned with DayOne ESG and ISO 14001 requirements.
- Champion a culture of safety leadership, accountability, and drive continuous improvement.
- Develop and maintain crisis management and emergency response plans for all construction projects.
- Coordinate drills and training for emergency preparedness, including fire, medical, and natural disaster scenarios.
- Serve as the primary point of contact during EHS-related emergencies and ensure timely communication with stakeholders.
- Collaborate with local authorities and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with emergency protocols.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience in the construction industry.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), CHST, or similar designation preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards, EPA regulations, and construction safety best practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
- Ability to travel to multiple job sites across regions.
- Experience with ISO 14001and ISO 45001 or other safety management systems.
