About the role
We are looking for an NQ or Junior Associate level lawyer to join our Singapore office. You will ideally have gained experienced in insurance matters acting on behalf of major global insurers and reinsurers.
This opportunity is in the practice lead by Partner Nicholas Sykes, ranked 5 Years running by Chambers and Partners, and listed as a Leading Individual for Insurance (Singapore) in the Legal 500 Asia Pacific guide. Nick has extensive experience across all areas of insurance and reinsurance law. In this role you will assist the Partner and senior lawyers in advising clients on complex policy coverage issues and quantum across a range of first-party business lines including Property, Energy, Construction & Engineering and Business Interruption Insurance. The team advises clients based in Singapore, S.E. Asia, Japan and South Korea, and also those in the London and European markets.
This is a close-knit team where you will be exposed to excellent quality work and mentoring.
Reporting to Nick you will be involved in all aspects of the property and energy coverage aspects of the practice. The role will be varied and involve you assisting the team on a range of complex and large-scale matters, researching and drafting documents, advices and correspondence, helping to oversee a broad range of contentious matters and litigation activities, and preparing for, and participating in, business development-related activities.
Candidate Profile
- Legally qualified to practice in a common law jurisdiction.
- Based in Singapore.
- Between 1-3 years of [re]insurance coverage / litigation experience gained from a reputable law firm (preferred)
- A genuine desire to build on and expand your skillset within a global law firm context.
- You will need to demonstrate relevant experience, strong academics, be self-driven, have excellent verbal and written communication and time management skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
- Enthusiasm to contribute to and foster a positive team atmosphere.
