Supply, Trading & Shipping (ST&S) is BP’s face to the traded markets for oil, gas, power, refinery and chemical feedstock and currencies. ST&S supports other BP businesses by providing a competitive supply, trading and shipping function that covers Oil, Chemicals, Power, and Gas as well as a suite of risk management tools. Our trading business delivers gross margin through our entrepreneurial trading activities and the optimization of blending and shipping operations.
Within ST&S, BP Shipping is the oldest continuously operating part of BP and has been supporting global marine activities since 1915. Our fleet of operated vessels, combined with vessels from our charter partners, represents one of the world’s most comprehensive marine networks for energy. At any one time, about 300 ships are on the water for bp, enabling us to move around 240 million tonnes of oil, gas, and products in any given year!
BP Maritime Services (BPMS) employs officers to sail on BP Shipping fleet of ships, which are the hardware that transports the company’s oil and gas around the world, and, with it, BP’s reputation. They open exciting new opportunities for the business and often pioneer innovations which are taken up by the industry as examples of standard process! BPMS facilitates the provision of services to our officers in our fleet, including:
Performance management support
General human resource (including capability development)
Payroll administration
Recruitment
Capacity planning and scheduling
We are seeking an applicant to fill the position of Senior Analyst – Shipping Reporting, based in Singapore. The successful candidate will be part of the Shipping & BPMS Finance Team and will report to the Finance Manager, Operated Fleet and Singapore Management Information. This role will be predominately passionate about Operated Fleet Management Information (MI) reporting, planning, forecasting and related systems infrastructure for BP Shipping and BPMS financials, and will also be required to assist with internal control activities and head office reporting.
Key Accountabilities
The successful candidate’s primary focus will be handling Operated Fleet financials in support of the Shipping Operated Fleet including Fleet Running for Shipping and Crewing for BPMS. The successful candidate will work closely with all partners across BPMS, BP Singapore and BP Shipping UK, where applicable and will be responsible for the following:
Coordinate the Shipping GFO (Group Financial Outlook) and GFR (Group Financial Reporting) submissions including variance analysis for Shipping Reporting, including Crewing and Fleet Running Costs (FRC).
Supervise Crewing and Fleet Running Finance costs across BPMS, BP Singapore, BP Shipping UK.
Coordinate and deliver plan requirements for Crewing and FRC in line with BP Shipping requirements and timelines. Build and include detailed scenario analysis for various business proposals.
Responsible for the build, development and maintenance of the management information system; ensuring the system is flexible, scalable and adaptable to changing demands and organisation growth.
Develop Business Continuity Plan for Shipping Finance including Crewing Payroll as main business risk factor, as well as for other Shipping Finance processes.
Develop accurate financial analyses and reports as required by the business, including for salary increment, bonus scheme proposals, procurement initiatives, annual benchmarking and other fleet strategies and initiatives.
Coordinate with the Finance, Business & Technology (FBT) teams and BP Shipping Finance for financial and accounting information purposes and functions within BPMS, BP Singapore and BP Shipping UK for operational information requirements.
Build and maintain key relationships with outsourced partners for financial and accounting information purposes and provide cost analysis and challenges as vital.
Collate and submit detailed supplementary data and respond timely to ad-hoc data requests as necessary.
Provide support and cover for Senior Analyst – Shipping ARC as necessary.
Additional ad-hoc projects on demand
Essential Experience and Job Qualifications:
Meaningful operational finance experience with a proven record of delivering commercial value.
Previous experience in financial accounting or financial planning is necessary
Strong Interpersonal skills with ability to influence in a collaborative manner and able to build and maintain successful relationships.
Strong communication and knowledge sharing skills
Strong teammate, proactive and assertive
Strong analytical skills and commercial awareness
Ability to successfully handle conflict and multiple priorities.
Desirable criteria and qualifications
Experience in Marine/Shipping industry is preferred
SAP accounting system experience is preferred
Experience in working with suppliers is desirable but not essential
SmartPal Ship management System experience is desirable but not essential
A university degree or equivalent experience or diploma holder preferred, but specific educational profile is less important than behaviours and a strong background of high performance and contribution.
